About

Raise a flag, sing an anthem, and dress a brand-new nation before the next great revolution begins. The Nation Forge is an inventive, high-energy challenge that turns the abstract idea of brand identity into a living, breathing nation built from scratch.

Just as every company relies on a distinct message, culture, and identity to stand apart and unite its people, nations are shaped over time by history, geography, and culture. Teams step into the shoes of nation-builders, tasked with crafting a national identity from the ground up.

Each group receives a randomly assigned set of unique national traits – perhaps a coastal country with a cool climate, warrior citizens, and a sacred reverence for horses. From these starting points, teams imagine their country’s name, design its flag, compose its anthem and dance, and create traditional dress using flags, fabric, accessories, and props that can be traded or purchased along the way.

The experience culminates in a dazzling, Eurovision-style showcase where each newly founded nation unveils its identity through a freely staged performance of flag, song, dance, and costume.

Learning outcomes

The Nation Forge is a powerful way to explore the true meaning of a brand and how far its influence extends - well beyond a logo - into the everyday behaviour of every member of an organisation.

By building a nation from nothing, teams experience firsthand how identity, values, and culture must be deliberately shaped and consistently expressed to resonate with others. This mirrors the real challenge businesses face: creating a brand that is not just visual, but behavioural and emotional.

Participants also practise negotiation and resourcefulness as they trade materials, and they strengthen collaboration as they align on creative decisions under time pressure. The final performance reinforces confidence, public presentation skills, and the pride that comes from co-creating something meaningful together.

Ultimately, the program helps teams understand that a strong identity - whether for a nation or a company - is built through shared purpose, consistent storytelling, and the willingness to commit fully to a collective vision.
