About

Blueprint Relay is a communication challenge that every department will recognize. Each person has an important role, and success depends on how well information moves from one link to the next.

Participants are split into small groups with specific roles in an information network. The goal is to build an exact copy of a model from simple pieces, but the builders never see the original.

Before the clock starts, teams agree on a strategy. Then descriptions, questions and feedback travel through the network, while strict rules control who can see the model and who can speak to whom.

When time is up, each copy is compared with the original. A facilitated debrief follows, where everyone shares what happened and discusses how information really moves inside your company.

Learning outcomes

Blueprint Relay highlights the value of precise language, feedback and step-by-step planning. Its rules show just how much depends on passing information clearly and accurately. Each role depends on the others, so nobody can coast.

Teams quickly see how small misunderstandings grow as a message travels, and how asking good questions and confirming details saves time. Builders learn to say what they need, and information holders learn to explain it simply.

It is an excellent way to improve communication between teams and departments, and with customers, because the same habits apply everywhere.

The closing debrief turns a fun challenge into practical lessons. People leave with more respect for colleagues in other roles and a clear idea of what they will do differently. It works especially well for cross-functional and multinational teams.
