About
Across Asia, the dragon dance is a symbol of luck, strength and celebration, and it only works when a whole team moves in harmony. Golden Serpent Dance lets your group create that spectacle itself, and it is a great highlight for Lunar New Year and year-end events.
Each team starts by designing and building its own Chinese dragon, choosing its colors and character and making every part from head to tail.
With musical instruments in hand, teams then compose their own score and rehearse a routine, learning to move the long, flexible dragon smoothly and in time with the music.
In the final performance, each team brings its dragon to life in a dignified, coordinated dance. Points are awarded for creativity, performance and teamwork, and the finale becomes a colorful celebration for everyone.
Learning outcomes
Building a dragon calls for creativity, ingenuity and good project management. Teams assess the task, form specialist groups that work in parallel and then bring all the parts together.
A successful build depends on cooperation between those groups and active communication, so every part fits as planned. Agreeing on sizes and connections early prevents problems once the dragon starts moving.
Composing music and choreographing the dance use creative thinking and collaboration, since every idea must work for the whole team. Everyone has a voice, from drummers to dancers.
Bringing it all together in rehearsal and performance takes strong leadership and teamwork. A dragon only moves gracefully when everyone is in step, a powerful picture of what alignment looks like in a team. It is also a wonderful celebration of shared Asian culture.
